The Tap Calendar - 2026
This calendar is a wonderful teaching tool for tap educators! Each month contains the birthdays of a multitude of important tap figures, such as Jimmy Slyde, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and Baby Laurence, in addition to all the typical holidays. The artwork features famous tap dancers and quotes attributed to them. This calendar will open up conversations about tap history, and will hopefully encourage your students to go explore some of these names on their own. We encourage you to write in your own students birthdays, as well as any important shows or recitals. It will be inspiring for students to see their names next to legends!
We have spent a LOT of time researching these birthdays, but with anything (especially when it comes to Black American history) some information is unintentionally (or otherwise) lost. So this is not an exhaustive list by any means. Important figures like Alice Whitman and “Salt” Evelyn for example, are not included because their birthdays are lost in time. We will continue our research and hopefully we can add more birthdays to our list in the coming years.
